San Francisco is home to diverse neighborhoods and scenic views. The waterfront offers extensive cycling and hiking opportunities, and an old-fashioned cable car can take you up and down the steep hills in the city. Many people choose to start their day by hopping on a ferry across the San Francisco Bay to visit Alcatraz Island for a little culture or enjoy panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline. For those seeking more foodie adventures, there's plenty of that in this beautifully varied city too — from salted caramel ice cream at Bi-Rite Market & Creamery to French toast with hazelnut butter custard at Nutella Café tucked inside Ferry Building Marketplace.
